As part of measures to cushion the effects of review in fees in the University of Abuja, the Governing Council, has prohibited any levy on students, saying violation of this directive would attract appropriate sanctions. A memo, signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Malam Yahya I. Mohammed, said the Council gave this directive at its 85th regular meeting on Wednesday, 11th and Thursday, 12th December, 2020.

The memo, read in part, “Council equally directed that no Faculty or Department should charge or collect any levy from the students outside the centrally collected fees and charges by the University. “Faculties/Departments are advised to always forward their requests for funds to the administration rather than levying the students.” The memo added that, henceforth, “any levy on the students is illegal and will therefore be criminalized and appropriate sanctions applied.”
